Fill in your pond size and harvest target, and the numbers are worked out automatically. We keep this calculator open to anyone planning a biofloc pond, including farmers outside Cirebon. Every calculation runs in your own browser and we store no data.

Pond Size

The water level, not the height of the pond wall.

Production Target

Common reference for tilapia biofloc: 100 - 150 fish per m3.
What percent of the fingerlings are expected to survive to harvest.
Kilograms of feed to produce 1 kg of fish.

Costs & Prices

Usually about 0.5 kg molasses per 1 kg feed.

How to Read the Results

The formulas this calculator uses, so you can check them yourself

The formula behind each number
Result Formula Note
Water volume 3.14159 x (diameter / 2)2 x water depth Uses the water depth, not the height of the pond wall
Fingerling count water volume x stocking density A high stocking density is only safe with 24-hour aeration
Fish at harvest fingerling count x SR A reasonable SR for biofloc tilapia is 80 - 90 percent
Harvest yield fish at harvest x weight per fish Market weight for tilapia is usually 250 - 350 grams
Harvest density harvest yield / water volume The most important number for judging aeration capacity
Feed needed harvest yield x FCR A healthy biofloc FCR is usually 1.1 - 1.4
Molasses needed feed needed x molasses ratio To keep the C:N ratio in the range of 15 - 20 to 1
Aeration points 1 point per m3, at least 4 per pond A rough reference, adjust it to your blower capacity

This Is a Planning Tool, Not a Guarantee

The real results depend on fingerling quality, daily water temperature, feed quality, floc stability, and how consistently you keep records. Use the numbers here to draw up an initial plan and budget, then keep correcting them with data from your own pond.

Questions About the Calculations

What people ask most often when planning a pond

How do you calculate the water volume of a round biofloc pond?

The water volume of a round pond is calculated as pi times the radius squared times the water depth. The radius is half the diameter. For a pond 3 meters in diameter with a water depth of 0.8 meters, the volume is about 5.65 cubic meters. What counts is the water depth, not the height of the pond wall.

How many fingerlings for a pond 3 meters in diameter?

With a water volume of about 5.65 cubic meters and a stocking density of 100 to 150 fish per cubic meter, that pond holds about 565 to 850 tilapia fingerlings. This figure is only safe if aeration runs a full 24 hours and there is backup power.

How do you calculate the feed needed?

The feed needed over one cycle is estimated from the harvest weight times the FCR value. For a 200 kilogram harvest with an FCR of 1.3, the feed needed is about 260 kilograms. In a healthy biofloc system the FCR is usually lower than in an ordinary pond because the fish also eat the floc.

How much molasses is needed?

A carbon source such as molasses is usually given at about half the weight of the feed, to keep the carbon to nitrogen ratio in the range of 15 to 20 to 1. The exact dose depends on the protein content of the feed and the ammonia readings in the pond.

What final density is still safe?

Biomass density at harvest in a biofloc tarpaulin pond is usually in the range of 15 to 35 kilograms per cubic meter. Above 35 kilograms per cubic meter, oxygen demand rises sharply, so aeration, daily measurement, and backup power have to be genuinely ready.

Is the data I enter stored?

No. Every calculation runs in your own browser. This website is a static page with no database, so no numbers are sent or stored anywhere.
